Traces of the dinosaurs
Lommiswil
When the prehistorians discovered the dinosaur tracks in the old quarry, it was already a sensation.
After detailed research work it was found out that 150 million years ago brachiosaurs walked over the mudflats at the seashore. About 500 tread marks were imprinted in the soft ground, which were then fossilized into limestone. The Jurassic stratification has pushed this rock cover into the vertical. Today, you can marvel at the traces on the steep face from a visitor platform. Display boards inform about the life of the dinosaurs. In the Solothurn Nature Museum, you can also see casts of the imprints. The way to the quarry can only be reached on foot in 40 minutes.
